Edgar Lee Master, Trainor il farmacista

da | Ago 30, 2019

Solo un chimico può determinare
(e neanche sempre) cosa dall’unione
di fluidi o solidi possa risultare.
E chi può indovinare la reazione
tra uomo e donna, i figli di domani?
Pensa a Benjamin Pantier e signora:
presi singolarmente erano buoni,
l’uno con l’altra eran disumani:
ossigeno era lui, lei era idrogeno,
il figlio loro un fuoco distruttore.
Son Trainor, farmacista, e interagire
faccio sostanze chimiche tra loro.
In un esperimento non riuscito
son morto; non mi sono mai sposato.

Only the chemist can tell, and not always the chemist,
What will result from compounding
Fluids or solids.
And who can tell
How men and women will interact
On each other, or what children will result?
There were Benjamin Pantier and his wife,
Good in themselves, but evil toward each other:
He oxygen, she hydrogen,
Their son, a devastating fire.
I Trainor, the druggist, a mixer of chemicals,
Killed while making an experiment,
Lived unwedded.
